In my Juxtaposition project I am focusing on the themes of Architecture and Nature, focusing on the nature surrounding where I live, specifically the New Forest, ‘one of the largest remaining tracts of unenclosed pasture land, heathland and forest in Southern England, covering southwest Hampshire and southeast Wiltshire.’ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Forest).
To begin my initial research for the project I visited the New Forest, capturing images of plants, flowers, and leaves that were visually interesting to me. From these photographs I researched further into the plants, using online sources such as https://www.newforestnpa.gov.uk/discover/plants-fungi/, https://www.plantlife.org.uk/uk/nature-reserves-important-plant-areas/important-plant-areas/new-forest, andhttp://www.newforestexplorersguide.co.uk/wildlife/wild-flowers/introduction.html. I researched the different properties of the plants, and how they can be used within everyday life. This included- how long they live, if they were rare or endangered, if they could be used for food (humans and animals), if they benefit other plants, if they are used in medicine, and more.

The page below features two of these plants discovered, an oak tree, and a Cepes mushroom. First hand drawings of these using biro pen, watercolour paint, and black fine liner pen were made to explore colour options, textures and marks that I might like to use in my project. From these I gathered ideas and an objective of where I want to progress my Juxtaposition project further.
