Architecturally Nature focuses on how the circular business model is represented through sustainable luxury interiors for hotels, traditionally looking at brutalist architecture and the use of nature in everyday life. The title ‘Architecturally Nature’ is named due to the juxtaposition of two chosen themes of nature and architecture, focusing on the contrast of fluid lines found in nature against the harsh linear structures found in Brutalist Architecture. Inspired by the concept of combining two individual subject matters together to form something new, this project differentiates from other work in the luxury interiors field.
Predominantly created for a luxury interiors application, this work concentrates on pushing the boundaries on people’s perception of sustainable textiles to emphasize the extent that can be achieved in the textile industry whilst being environmentally conscious. This is what drives her as a designer.
Her work often focuses on the controlled straight lines found in a subject that can be manipulated and developed into more complex, and unique imagery. More recently she has begun to contrastingly combine both linear and fluid structures to achieve further dimension within this work. This will be striking to her audience and will receive a more positive reaction; a journey that was crucial in developing herself as an artist, by progressing into more professional and finished final outcomes.
With a vision to create a body of work that will make an impact to the audience and clearly show a journey that has been taken to come to this point, there is an aim for all work to not conclude at a specific stage, but to be a continuing body of work that could be added to and developed over time. This work is created to start conversations, and to achieve this these conversations should continue and not end.
In this work there is an aim to achieve a positive response from viewers, and to have a beneficial effect on them; whether that is familiarizing them with a specific subject or to help create a positive attitude. Conversational pieces are created that are intended to be noticeable and clearly represent to the viewer the subject matter/theme. By showing a clear vision of the journey she hopes that this will increase engagement from her audience.
Through her work she aims to be sustainable throughout. Although varying themes between the electricity project and Architecturally nature project, they both have relatability in terms of sustainable thinking throughout. The research within the first project into the concerns around the textile industry’s harmful effects on the environment led an inspiration for the Electricity project; a project influenced by the detrimental use of electricity in the industry and the different sources of electricity that are used.
This work fits in with current contemporary art as it touches many significant and relevant topics that are being discussed and debated currently, such as sustainability in the textile industry. By being sustainably aware it will have a beneficial impact on encouraging others to begin to, or continue to, act in the same way.
