3D Textile Innovation

A collection of three-dimensional innovative textile designs intended for couture fashion on a runway.

Focusing on both the linear and fluid structures found in electricity, this collection draws inspiration from electromagnetic waves, circuit boards, electricity pylons, and wiring. A manipulation of materials including fabric, thread and wood, using a neutral colour palette inspired by my primary and secondary imagery.

Visually I will focus on electric waves, circuit boards, electricity pylons, electrical symbols to create a forward thinking, futuristic textile design suitable for a couture fashion application. My textile design sample will be intended to be suitable for a catwalk model.

My initial mood board for the project

Biro drawings to help get my ideas down
More complex biro drawings in a tessellation style
Primary imagery of electricity pylons for inspiration for drawings

Exploring 3D options: Folding out sections of the drawing, and painting/spray painting the other side to create a contrast and be more effective
Exploring 3D options:cutting out intricate shapes and securing to form curves in the structure

Using rope to layer and manipulate into the shape of an electricity pylon. Layering cardboard to make them 3D
