Elizabeth Walking is a recent graduate from Leeds College of Art. The aim of her work is to produce clothing for women aged 21-31, to have a fashionable, functional wardrobe that does not leave them feeling dissatisfied with the constant updating of fast fashion trends. She creates timeless fashion pieces made with quality eco-friendly materials.
Her work is built with a sense of purpose, and using sustainble materials with a high quality. This allows the consumer to create a deeper connection with their purchases, and subsequently wanting to keep it for a longer time.
To extend the flexibility of her work, a colour palette of a combination of soft, cool and warm tones are used, that merge into a seasonless palette. In order to create a collection that will be timeless and keep up with the ever changing fast fashion trends, she abstracts imagery from informed by mineralogy and stratigraphy. Colour is abstracted from the imagery to create an aesthetic that coincides with the concept of trans-seasonal versatility and her sustainability ethos. Her designs are suitable to be taken through each season, staying relative to the weather and to fashion.
Her work is inspiration to me in my work throughout my Juxtaposition, as I have a similar ethos to how I would like to produce my work. Although my application is for Interiors and not Fashion, I have been sustainably aware throughout and plan to produce a collection that will make viewers aware of sustainable production and the benefits it can have.
