Olivia Rubens is a knitwear womenswear designer. Olivia Rubens’ playful and eccentric creations showcase sustainability at its core. Her use of highly certified yarns and materials and interest in meeting suppliers to know the production firsthand depicts her passion for creating sustainable collaborations. Natural dyers, sustainable dyers, and spinners in the UK are used to ensure this.
Through her collaborations, including working with many charities, she produces a unique outcome that will make a significant impact on any damage that the industry has created, or work towards a circular future. She believes that ‘without that, the attempt at ‘’being sustainable’’ really doesn’t have much meaning’. Olivia Rubens is one of the textile designers that are working hard to create positive changes in the industry to ensure that the sustainability movement is producing significant results. Rubens believes that truly caring and understanding sustainability comes with a cost of knowing that you can never be 100% sustainable and knowing that there will always be room for improvement.
Olivia Rubens’ passion for sustainability is influential to me. Her thoughts towards how fashion brands should not be doing the minimum changes that are thought to be necessary from the public is eye opening and shows a different perspective on the changes that have been made in recent years. ‘It’s important for each designer and manufacturer to make a measurable impact in repairing the damage we’ve done, or to become circular.’
